Juliana Barile var ansatt hos en kredittbank i New York, men fikk sparken i vår. Nå har hun erklært seg skyldig i en hevnaksjon som endte med 21GB tapte data for den tidligere arbeidsgiveren.
«Som hevn for å ha blitt sagt opp, skaffet Barile seg skjult tilgang til datasystemet til sin tidligere arbeidsgiver, og slettet boliglånsøknader og annen sensitiv informasjon som lå på serveren», sier fungerende advokat Jacquelyn M. Kasulis, ifølge Bleeping Computer.
Ifølge rettsdokumenter skal tiltalte ha jobbet fra hjemmekontor under tiden som ansatt for selskapet, før hun 19. mai fikk sparken.
21.3 gigabyte med data forduftet
Tilgangen hennes til datasystemene på arbeidsplassen ble imidlertid ikke fjernet, noe Barile utnyttet. 21. mai skal hun ha logget seg på og tilbrakt ca 40 minutter inne på arbeidsgiverens datasystemer.
Herfra skal hun ha slettet over 20.000 filer og 3.500 mapper. Totalt rakk hun å kvitte seg med 21.3 gigabyte med data på bankens servere.
26. mai skal hun ha sendt følgende melding til en venn, via SMS:
«De fjernet ikke tilgangen min, så jeg slettet P-disken og de delte dokumentene på nettverket».
Kostbar affære
Banken hadde backup av noen av de slettede dataene, men det skal ha kostet dem mer enn 10.000 dollar, over 86.000 kroner, å gjenopprette de ødelagte filene.
«Ms. Barile tror kanskje hun hevnet seg på arbeidsgiveren ved å slette filene, men hun gjorde minst like mye skade på kundene», heter det i rettsdokumentene.
– Egoistisk handling
Det påpekes at hun ikke bare skapte en stor sikkerhetarisiko for banken, men også for kundene som var avhengig av dokumentene for å betale for sine hjem.
«En trussel fra innsiden kan skape like mye kaos, om ikke mer, enn en eksterne kriminelle. Banken og kundene er nå tvunget til å håndtere en enorm hodepine når de nå må reparere skadene som ble påført av en ansatts egoistiske handlinger.
